David Leach was born in Tokyo in 1911, and was first taught to pot by Shoji Hamada. David Leach's pottery was exhibited worldwide. Unfortunately we don't have any pieces at the present time.

David Leach joined the Leach Pottery in 1930 where he stayed, on and off, for twenty-five years. He helped the pottery to get onto a sound footing as a business and made important artistic and technical contributions to production.

In 1953 he became head of the ceramics department at Loughborough College. In 1954 he started the Aylesford Pottery, handing it over a year later to Colin Pearson. He then moved to Bovey Tracey in Devon and set up Lowerdown Pottery where he remained until his death.
